Chasing Adrenaline in NZ

In the span of two days, my mom, aunty, and I jam-packed all our adrenaline-high activities. On back-to-back days, we fit in jetboating, hoping in geyser springs and black water rafting.
February 12, 2023 - Taupo, New Zealand
It was a total of 1 hour from Rotorua to Taupo. I chose to book a Jet Boat in Taupo because it was the best way to see Huka Falls.
This raging waterfall of foam was amazing to jet right up to. Jet boating is not for the faint of heart. The rain whipped at us as we rode VERY FAST. The captain did 360º spins, dodged trees, maneuvered, and weaved through flocks of ducks and logs. This 30-minute boat ride was exhilarating. I highly recommend doing it!
February 13, 2023 - Waitomo Glowworm Caves
I made a mistake with this booking. I booked it based on the very relaxed-looking brochure pictures. I assumed it was similar to a lazy river ride to see the glowworms. Let me tell you, I was way off. I also should have gotten a clue when the name was The Legendary Black Water Rafting. It wasn’t until we put on cold, tight wetsuits, picked up our small tubes, and were instructed that the safest way down the waterfalls was to jump off BACKWARDS. That’s the point when we all looked at each other with worry.
It also didn’t help that a cyclone was coming toward New Zealand. The tour guides said it was safe, but the water was rushing fast from the rain. We had to tread through this water in the dark with the cave walls closing in on us. Sure enough, it was terrifying, surreal, and an experience of a lifetime. This is NOT for anyone claustrophobic or scared of the dark. I will admit, I was not prepared for it to be that hard. I was scared, yet I feel accomplished after all of it. I also learned my lesson to always read the reviews and not just look at the pictures.
Seeing the glowworms was amazing, and accomplishing it the hard way made seeing them in person worth it. My mom and Aunty will never let me forget this story. I'm glad they still did the scary stuff I signed them up for.
